When it comes to hormone balancing many people jump right into the hormone testing with supplementation of the bio-identical hormones. Bio-identical hormones have severe risk complications. For those of you who are looking at a holistic way of understanding hormone imbalances there is another way.

Fat loss vs. Weight loss

Everyone needs to remember that fat loss and weight loss are not the same thing. When you are on a fat loss program you are burning fat off of your body. Many of the wight loss programs that are out there not only burn some fat but also muscle and bone tissue as well. We say weight loss because it sounds better but in reality it dilutes your goal and purpose. To have proper fat loss hormone balance is necessary.

I am finding that some people start to have hormone problems because they do not have the raw materials to make the hormones, or the pathways in which the hormone is produced or activated is deficient. This happens from improper diet/lifestyle, decreased ability to digest food or from stress. This is the area that most people try to tackle first when they are confronted with a hormone imbalance. Proper management will look at nutrient uptake first.

It is also important to note any medications you are taking. Medications alter how your body works. Although they can be necessary in the short term, long term medications will never promote health of your body.

So many people have problems with fat loss and thyroid problems. First if you have a thyroid problem then you need to look at supplementation for the adrenal glands because if one is stressed than the other will be as well. Some raw materials for the thyroid include: iodine, tyrosine, selenium, and b6.

If you have a raw material problem then supplementing with the basic raw materials will aid in fat loss and help balance your hormones. It is not recommended to just start supplementation of the thyroid gland until proper blood work has been done, especially if you have an autoimmune condition. If you have an autoimmune or other severe complication then you will accelerate damage to your thyroid gland.
